I have always been interested in the making of musical instruments, a path which has taken me from the field of Art to the language of instrument making. As well as fully functional instruments which enable expression of musical language, the practice transcends disciplines, geographical borders, cultures and languages. This encompasses and informs my teaching practice which has been in the tertiary sector and now is in secondary schools in design and technology. Teaching sustainable use of resources, design and making has become a passion arising from my extensive study of woods and resource management.

I make stringed instruments, specialising in the Double Bass, using endemic Australian wood in addition to traditional woods used for the practice of reproduction instruments, something which I have learned working in Germany building instruments with Oskar Kappelmeyer.

“transcending disciplines, geographical borders, cultures and languages.”
